I have been blessed to be part of perhaps the best American dream story you have ever heard.SRM5My parents, Mike and Melissa Hollingshead, started a concrete company about 25 years ago with just two employees – themselves – and no money.  That didn’t stop them from striving to be successful.  My parents instilled in me a belief that if you work hard, you can achieve your goals – and this has served me well.

In 2000, my parents opened Smyrna Ready Mix, right out behind the little 900 square foot house I grew up in on Hickory Grove Road.  Yes, living with a concrete plant right behind our little house was loud and dusty, but I can’t imagine my brother and I having a better childhood.  There was always buckets of hard work, more love than my brother and I deserved and the love of the Lord.

I started working at Smyrna Ready Mix at five-years-old.  I worked after school, weekends and of course, every summer.  I worked every aspect of concrete and along the way, I learned the value of good, hard work.

In 2007, I became a full-time employee of Smyrna Ready Mix.  By 2010, I advanced to become the general manager of Smyrna Ready Mix, and believe me, I had to earn the GM position.

When I first became GM (2010), Smyrna Ready Mix was operating six concrete plants.  Smyrna Ready Mix now manages 16 plants across Tennessee and Kentucky.  We have been blessed with to have become one of the largest companies in our industry.

We attribute this growth to two things:  1) God  2) Our number one business rule at Smyrna Ready Mix: WE ABIDE BY CUSTOMER SERVICE. When you need us, we will be there.

But running the family business is just one of my vocations.  I was called to be the youth minister at Calvary Apostolic Church at the age of 17.  Calvary is a small but loving church; it is such an honor to serve in the church in which I grew up.  Yes, I was nervous the first time I got up to preach but the Holy Spirit lead me through my first sermon.

I married my high school sweetheart, the former Holly Sharp, in 2008.  Holly and I met as sophomores at Smyrna High School through a couple of mutual friends.  Immediately I knew she was ‘the one’.  God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters, ages four and two.  Macey and Emmie enjoy gymnastics and fishing with their daddy.

Holly and I enjoy working with our youth group at Calvary Apostolic Church.  Every summer we take the youth, around thirty kids, on a three-day fishing trip to Kentucky Lake.  For some these kids, this is the only opportunity some of these kids have to enjoy the great outdoors.

Also, I am attending night classes at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, to complete the 24 hours of classes towards a bachelors degree in Business Administration.
